Haiti's Climate and Geography
Geography
- Haiti means mountainous (pbs.org)
- 2nd largest island in the Caribbean (1st is Cuba)
- It's surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean (North) and the Caribbean Sea (West,South)
- It includes 5 islands: Gonave, Tortuga, Vache, Les Cayemites, and Navassa
- 2/3 of the island is mountainous
- There's 5 mountain ranges: Massif du Nord, Montagnes Noire, Chain de Mateaux, Massif de la Hotte, and Massif de la Selle
- The highest peak is Morne de la Selle at 8,790
- 1/3 of Haiti is flatland plains
- The 4 major plains are the Northern Plain(between the Atlantic Ocean & Massif du Nord), the Artibonite Plain, the Cul-de-Sac Plain, and The Central Plateau
- Haiti has over 100 rivers
- The largest river is the Artibonite that flows to the Gulf de la Gonave
